What is Confirmation? (BCP, p. 860)
Confirmation is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop.
What is required of those to be confirmed?
It is required of those to be confirmed that they have been baptized, are sufficiently instructed in the Christian Faith, are penitent for their sins, and are ready to affirm their confession of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
How old should my child be to be confirmed?
The usual age for the Youth Confirmation at St. John's is 9th Grade and up.
What is expected of the Candidates for Confirmation?
When is the Confirmation?
The Confirmation service usually takes place on the Saturday before Pentecost Day (usually in May) in the Catherdal of the Incarnation in Garden City.
What happens in the Confirmation service?
The Confirmation service is led by the Bishop of the Diocese of Long Island. Many candidates from other churches around the Diocese will participate in the service. The Bishop will lay hands on each Confirmand as a sign of the blessing of the Holy Spirit. |
